AN ENCOURAGEMENT TO THE CALIFORNIA CHURCH
In late July Grace & I had just left a meeting in Chico where Lou Engle was speaking to about 30 northern California leaders about the upcoming “TheCall Sacramento” … when, as we were driving, I told Grace all I want to do is weep. That was on a Friday and our upcoming weekend schedule was packed with preaching engagements and speaking to hungry northern California leaders ourselves. But as we were driving south to our engagement in Nevada County to preach that night, and my mind was gripped with TheCall and the hungry leaders in that meeting, all of the preach was drained out of me and I just wanted to weep. It was a weep for joy. It was one of those moments in life that I knew that we were in the right place at the right time. The spirit of TheCall and the hunger of those leaders is symbolic to the answer to California’s (and America’s) woes. I believe God gave me a taste of our own medicine. We have been preaching all year to churches across the state that this is California’s time and the hungry believers here are “in the right place at the right time.”
Two days later back up in Chico in the Sunday services at Family Life Church God confirmed our hearts about the time and the region with an awesome move of His Spirit.
Lately God has been speaking to my heart that 2010 is a strategic year for California. This year there is a shift in the heavens over California.
THE RIVER OF MERCY FLOODS IN CALIFORNIA IN 2010
I do not believe it is a coincidence that the Merced River officially flooded this year. We have just experienced several consecutive years of considerably low rainfall here in California. Whether they appreciate it or not, this is of great significance to the entire world. Just from a practical stand point California produces more food and feeds more people than any place on earth. It feeds half of America and exports food to over 150 nations. I tell people “never talk about California with your mouth full.” But last winter the rains and snows returned and dropped up to 150 percent of the normal snowfall into the California Mountains and water shed. By early spring the waterfalls in Yosemite were booming! By early June the National Park Service announced that the Merced River was above flood stage. The reservoirs and lakes filled up and California has an abundance of water again.
According to the N P S Yosemite is the highest concentration of high waterfalls in the world. If you believe in prophetic symbolisms this one is astounding. Yosemite is in Mariposa County. The actual geographic center stake for California is only about 30 miles from the county seat town of Mariposa. So it just so happens that the earth’s highest concentration of high waterfalls, which speak of “outpouring,” is located in the heart of the Golden State. It also just so happens that all those beautiful water falls, that represent the outpouring, thunder into Yosemite Valley and birth the Merced River. Merced in Spanish means “Mercy.”
It is no coincidence that God designed California so that the heart of the Golden State represented an outpouring that feeds the “River of Mercy.” Yes, the River of Mercy flows out of the heart of California. And this year, 2010, the River of Mercy was at flood stage.
HE GETS HIS PEOPLE A PRAYIN’ ~ AND BLESSES & INTENSIFIES HUNGRY HEARTS IN 2010
“For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.” Isa 44:3-4
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.” 2 Chron. 7:14-15
“After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.” Acts 15:16-17
California and America need a move of God. Only He can heal our land. Now hear me saints, there is only one thing God needs to heal the land and it’s not the politicians, nor the voters. It’s the church on its knees. He needs us to come to Him and pray with a desperation and fervor. He gives the church the power to by-pass the liberals and the conservatives, as well as the voters. We, the body of Christ, can put California directly into the hands of God.
Note: Grace & I are voters and we exercise our right to vote at every election, and we encourage our church and friends to do the same. But folks, if we had a Ronald Reagan (We’re Reagan fans!) in every office in the land it would not address what is wrong in America. We must have a move of God!
CONSIDER HANNAH ~ DESPERATION IN HIS FACE
In the book of Samuel we have the story of Hannah. Hannah wanted a son and God wanted her to have a son. But God actually had bigger plans than Hannah. He wanted this son to be a Judge of Israel, and a Prophet, and an anointer of kings, and a writer of scripture. So, the Bible says “the Lord shut up her womb.” But God didn’t shut her womb to stop her … just the opposite. God wanted a special baby. He shut her womb because He trusted her to push in and travail at the altar. He knew that she would drive right up into His face. He shut her womb to birth that baby in the spirit. Her desperation brought her to her knees and into His face. Hannah got her baby … and more.
MAYBE GOD CLOSED CALIFORNIA’S WOMB (AND AMERICA’S)
All the Lord needs to heal our land is His church on its knees and in His face. The Bible tells us that God gives us our governments and rulers. I believe that sometimes He gives us the conditions like we have now in Sacramento and Washington and the Federal Courts as a form of closing the womb.
The light is going out in the world. The moral condition of society is decaying so fast that it is approaching insanity. And no matter what we do in the political arena or how hard we try, or how loud we scream it keeps getting worse. Like Proposition 22 and then Proposition 8 (the California voters rightly saying no to gay marriages), we can’t beat it or kill it with legislation or politics. No matter what you do it keeps coming back. It’s a spirit and it must be dealt with at the root.
But … if we, the church, will get desperate and pray God will move by His Spirit and the church’s finest hour can be just ahead. We go to God and He goes to the heart and root of California and America. It’s His promise!!!
GOD RESERVES FOR HIMSELF A REMNANT
I find it very interesting that this year I am hearing more calls to pray than ever before. God is literally imparting the spirit of prayer on the California body. A number of new prayer initiatives were born this year and several that were close to dormant resurrected their intensity this year. Prayer coalitions, prayer conference calls, solemn assemblies, prophetic/apostolic leadership roundtables, and local prayer groups are at an all-time high this year. There is also an increase in Pastors and leaders desiring to connect and unify. There seems to be more of an apostolic awareness as more leaders are becoming more regional and state minded rather than just caring about their church or ministry.
It has been amazing to Grace & me as Apostles, Pastors and regional leaders have been passionate about meeting with us to discuss the move of God in this land. We have literally been going from meeting to meeting all year. Some have wanted to talk to us privately while others have had us speak to groups of area leaders that they have gathered for the specific purpose of us sharing the California vision. And believe me, we know this isn’t about us, it’s about what God is doing in California. We are all just players on His team and we each have a different piece of the puzzle. It’s when we all come to His table with what He gives us the whole plan unveils.
I know that this fresh awareness is just a remnant but this year it is a growing reality in this state. There has been a shift.
Psalm 80:18 says “So we will not go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.” It clearly appears that God is quickening His California church to cry out and pray.
The good news is He wouldn’t be doing this if He wasn’t up to something big!!
In a previous article I shared that the Lord showed me that He wanted to hear an uncommon roar coming out of California. He wants to hear the sound of prayer!! He wants a Joel 2 ~ Jonah 3 ~ 2 Chronicles 20 ~ and Acts 15:16 & 17 sound of praise and
worship, and repentance, and crying out to God to heal our land. The church has been rightly crying “more Lord.” But now He is responding “louder please.”
NOT A COINCEDENCE
TheCall Sacramento ~ TheCall was birthed in California 10 years ago. I do not believe that it is a coincidence that this national prayer event is being held in the California state capitol this year.
The Aglow National Conference ~ just happens to be in San Jose this year.
God, Gold & Glory! ~ The first and only book of its kind … the book that pulls the veil and reveals the spiritual California that God sees just happened to be published in 2010. By their own testimonies Pastors and leaders around the state are being profoundly blessed and encouraged concerning California by this book. The prophets have stated that G,G & G is “a now word” because it is hidden truth revealed, and it is California’s time.
THE ORAL ROBERTS ~ CALIFORNIA FACTOR
Many of you may have seen Billy Brim when she was hosted by Gloria Copeland earlier this year on Kenneth Copeland’s “The Believers Voice of Victory.” I personally did not see it but several people shared with me about this point. She said that the Lord had previously shown her that when Oral went home to be with the Lord that He was going to open a portal of His Spirit for revival. She stated to Gloria on that program that she had never considered anything but that that would be the Tulsa area of Oklahoma. But she was startled when Oral left for heaven from California. She said the Lord then showed her that the open portal was coming to California. Folks, Oral graduated in southern California on December 15, 2009 … the very eve of 2010.
CALIFORNIA, A PLACE OF ACCELLERATED TIME ON GOD’S CLOCK
In 2000 God showed me a vision of the light of Christ moving from the Holy Land north to Europe, then across the Atlantic to the east coast and finally to the west coast. When it reached the west coast it immediately exploded shafts of lightning all over the earth. He then showed me that the light represented Christianity and the explosion represented “Latter-day Pentecost” (the 1906 Azusa Street Revival and all of the Pentecostal and charismatic outpourings since) to the world. Even in a natural sense California as a state exploded to the forefront in unprecedented time. It went from foreign soil to statehood in record time. The term “Gold Rush” in the natural and spirit speaks of California history. The day it became a state it was the richest state in the union and was shipping gold out of “the gate” that was changing the economy of other nations. It immediately shot to the front in so many arenas it is too numerous to mention in this article. But the fact is that in economy, food production, exports and spiritual things California already leads the nation that leads the world.
Now, I said all that to say this … “we ain’t seen nothing yet! The best is yet to come!”

HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT ~ 2010 THE VEIL IS REMOVED!!
Now this is where it gets exciting saints! In April the Lord showed me that this year … 2010 … He is beginning to move California from “The Holy Place” to “The Most Holy Place.”
Let me explain. In the mid 1840s before California was acquired by America the gold in the hills was extremely abundant and it was literally in plain sight. The Spanish, Mexicans and Indians were well aware of it. This also bears out as many of the first placer miners struck it rich very fast. They wrote letters home about how easy it was to find the gold. As we all know “gold fever” makes people go nuts! They get very excited and can’t keep their mouths shout. However, the Lord must have put a blind or veil over the California gold until His plan was in place for America. That plan was a free and Christian nation “from sea to shining sea.” Had gold been discovered even a few weeks before God’s appointed time the rivers would have run red with blood for America to acquire California. Consequently we find it very interesting that it was within nine days time that the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed in Mexico City that James Marshall had discovered gold in California. That treaty ended all argument between America and Mexico on the issue of California ownership. Those dates were January 24 & February 2, 1848 respectively.
In other words when God was ready, and not one day before, He pulled the veil and the Gold Rush and California’s greatness shot to the world in a flash!! Gold! Gold! Gold! there’s Gold in California!! The world rushed in! Then just a few years later on the grand scale of time He sent the fire on Azusa Street and changed the world spiritually. I believe in a “first in the natural, and then in the spirit” sort of way (1 Corin. 15:44-47), these two events represent the 1st veil of the old Wilderness Tabernacle.
Time for the 2nd (main) veil to come down ~ Now … today we have spiritual leaders who have lived and ministered in California for many years. Many of them are friends of mine and are powerful men & women of God who operate in the prophetic and hear the voice of God. But … by their own testimony they did not see the real gold of California until this year. Many of them have been absolutely amazed as they read the facts presented in the book on the spiritual history of California. It’s like they were spiritually blinded to the spiritual gold in their own state … until 2010!
Some of the leaders have told me “Henry, I have been cursing what God has blessed.” The leaders are now repenting and beginning to bless with a passion instead of cursing and belittling God’s plan. This can be world-changing as there is much authority in the blessing of the leaders.
I’m not trying to sell books here but the fact is that the message God gave me is helping many to see what has been “hidden in plain sight.” More global moves of God have come out of California than any other place on earth!
Now this is what the Lord showed me in April, almost 4 months after the book was published. I didn’t even see it while I was writing it. The Gold Rush/food production, etc., and California’s other natural riches along with all the global moves of God that have come out of California since 1906, as awesome as they are, were only “the Holy Place.” Now, this year He is removing the main veil and revealing to His Bride His master plan for the Golden state. He is moving California into its real destiny!!
Can somebody shout with me?? But remember, it won’t just happen … it is still …

A WORD ABOUT NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
At the beginning of The Bear Flag Revolt when Fremont named the Golden Gate I believe, by the plan of God, He (God) prophetically marked it and northern California for spiritual greatness. As described below it is the symbolic western entrance to America. Gold represents Deity and it is no coincidence that the western entrance to California and America is “The Golden Gate.” However up to now southern California has been the undisputed spiritual power seat of the state.
San Francisco, according to a book by the pastor of one of the largest churches in the Bay area, is the only major city in America that has never had a major revival. Some dispute this and I’ll do more research on the matter later. But the fact remains that, as large as the city is, there are no spirit-filled mega-churches in the entire city. For a city the size and influence of San Francisco that speaks volumes. What the city is well-known for is its liberalism, homosexuality, sexual perversion, and the environmentalist capitol of the world. One drive around its streets and you see quickly that you are not in our little mountain town of Mariposa. The Golden Gate Bridge itself is known as the number one suicide spot in the nation.
Our state capitol, Sacramento, has other problems. With an area population of well over a million people there are no spirit-filled mega-churches in Sacramento, and, there is very little unity in the spirit between the churches. I was told that one Prophet said “Sacramento Pastors want the barrel and the paddle.”
The Sleeping Giant ~ There is a prophetic vision that originated a number of years ago through several witnesses that seems to be coming to life now. The vision is … Northern California is a Sleeping Giant. There is a strong feeling among many leaders now that northern California (The Giant) is about to wake up.
I believe from the very beginning the adversary knew the awesome plan of God for California so he pulled out the stops to plug “the gate” to try to thwart the move of God. On our not-so-great state seal you see the demon spirit Minerva and her protectress Medusa overlooking San Francisco Bay.
I sincerely believe that as the body prays and repents over northern California God will open up the Golden Gate and the River of Sacrament, and northern California is going to rise up and take its rightful lead in a statewide outpouring! I really witness to the possibility that the sleeping giant is a key factor in California increasing that roar and achieving the level of the spirit that it is called to.
“Where sin abounds …” and … “If the thief be found …” Let me declare to you he has been found and he must return seven fold!!
Jesus said “speak to the mountain.”
“By the power of the Holy Spirit we say to The Golden Gate … open to the move of God! We call and decree The Golden Gate, San Francisco and Sacramento as Holy places of God!! We speak blessing over all of northern California!” Can I get a witness here? Smile!
Jesus’ first miracle was … He saved the best wine for last.
THE LONG AND THE SHORT OF IT
2010 is a pivotal year for California. God is breathing a fresh wind into many of the leaders in this state. He has shifted California into the next level of His plan. California is and always has been about God’s plan for the world.
We encourage everyone to be of good cheer and rise to the call. “Arise shine!” Resolve in your hearts before God to never curse or belittle the plan of God again. Start blessing California with a fresh fire and passion … while increasing your prayers and intercessions. We speak the unity spirit of Psm. 133, Acts 1& 2, and John 17 ~ AMEN!

SOME PROPHETIC SYMBOLISMS & CALIFORNIA
(Too powerful to ignore ~ Please accept my paraphrasing below)
THE ALMOND TREE
In Jeremiah 1:11 God says “Jerry baby what do you see?” Jerry says “I see the Branch of an almond tree.” God responded “you have seen well, now I’ll hasten my word to perform it.” Now folks, connect the dots … “California, a Place of Accelerated Time …”
The almond tree is the first to bud forth or awaken in a new season. It actually blooms in the winter. It symbolizes the watchmen on the wall, the first call. The Dake annotated Bible says in Jeremiah it represents “speedy fulfillment.” It also speaks of resurrection.
Then in the book of Numbers chapter 17, when Korah and his rebels got stupid with Moses, God used the Almond to show leadership. Remember? Aaron’s rod budded almonds. It also confirmed “speedy fulfillment” as it budded, leafed out and produced ripe fruit overnight ... full cycle.
In summary the almond tree symbolizes: Speedy fulfillment, leadership & resurrection.
It is also said to represent: Watchfulness, fruitfulness, hope, authority, health & happiness.
California grows “all” of the almonds for America and 80% of the almonds for the world.
THE OLIVE TREE
In Zachariah 4:11 Zack says “Hey Lord, what are these two olive trees I’m looking at?”
Remember the two olive trees on each side of the Golden Lampstand? They were pouring the golden oil ~ through the golden pipes ~ into the Golden Lampstand ~ to produce the light. Jesus!!
We all know that the olive oil represents the Holy Spirit and anointing. Olive oil also represents healing and power. In this scripture those two trees speak of “the unlimited supply of the anointing.”
In summary the olive tree symbolizes “the unlimited supply of the Holy Spirit anointing.”
It also represents healing and power.
California is the home to the olive capitol of the world … the city of Corning. It used to be in the Fresno area but the north Sacramento Valley has recently surpassed it.
An interesting note: According to the U.C. Davis Ag web site they have developed a new variety of olive tree that is much easier to harvest. It stated that between 2007 and 2012 they project a 500% increase in olive production in California … who already boasts the olive capitol of the world. That sure rings prophetic to me as the olive production in the state is exploding in increased production at the same time God is pulling the spiritual veil. Wow!
THE VINEYARD
In Isaiah 65:8 The Lord says “the new wine is found in the cluster so don’t destroy it, because a blessing is in it: …”
In the 18th century Father Junipero Serra declared California as “The vineyard of the Lord.” The vineyard symbolizes fruitfulness. Wine speaks of “His presence.” The new wine speaks of the Holy Spirit and the new covenant. The cluster speaks of the church.
I will submit to you that the cluster is in California and a blessing is in it.
California produces approximately 90% of the grapes and wine for America, the world’s largest market. The largest winery in the world is in Modesto, California.
THE GOLDEN GATE
We know that in the Bible gold speaks of royalty or Deity. It is the main substance seen in the Holy of Holies. It is interesting to note that Fremont, as a prophetic act in the very beginning of the Bear Flag Revolt, renamed “The Mouth to the Bay of San Francisco” to “The Golden Gate” on July 1, 1846. This was 18 months before Marshall “discovered” gold in January 1848. The Golden Gate represents the western entrance to California and America. It is also the gate from America to the entire Pacific Basin and the far-east.
THE LAND OF MILK & HONEY
The Bible speaks much about “the land of milk & honey.” It is symbolic of “the promised land.” It speaks of abundance and the “good life.”
California is the embodiment of all of the above. It is literally America’s top producer of milk and it is intermittently the top producer of honey. But even more than that it is the world’s top food producer, with a temperate climate, incredible land and seascape, and it is the richest state of the richest nation in history. And because of the “good life” it quickly became the most popular state to live in.
THE CORN THE WINE AND THE OIL
In Joel 2:19 God says He will restore the corn, and the wine and the oil to satisfy us.
We know that the corn speaks of abundance … the wine speaks of His presence … and the oil speaks of His power. (The oil spoken of in the Bible most always refers to olive oil)
This is the text Peter referred to on the day of Pentecost when God poured out His Spirit and birthed the church in Acts 2. So we can directly apply the principle to the outpouring at Azusa Street in 1906 as it was Latter-day Pentecost to the world. From the dark ages to Azusa Street the power and baptism of the Holy Spirit had for all practical purposes disappeared from the church.
California is a major grain exporter. The word used for corn in the King James really means grain. We have already spoken of the wine and the oil.
THE YOSEMITE FIREFALLS
In 1 Kings 18:24 Elijah says we have a God that answers by fire. The writer of Hebrews says He is a consuming fire.
In 1871, just 21 years after statehood, a California entrepreneur by the name of David Curry started the famous Yosemite Firefalls. It was an event that became its own institution. Over the years it became so popular that it was attracting more people to Yosemite than Yosemite itself. The Park Service stopped it in 1968 because of the traffic and confusion it produced in the park.
A huge fire was built at the top of Glacier Point which was 3,000 feet straight up the granite wall from Camp Curry. The fire was timed so that it burned down to a large heap of glowing coals at the time of the event which was 9 p.m. every evening during the summer months. With thousands of people watching from Camp Curry and every vantage point in Yosemite Valley a powerful prophetic act would take place. There was a man at Glacier Point that prepared the fire and worked by signal with the “caller” at the base of Glacier Point at Camp Curry.
Now remember from page one of this article that Yosemite is in the heart of California and it and all of its beautiful waterfalls are the headwaters of the Merced River (River of Mercy).
Every evening all summer at exactly 9 o’clock the event took place. There would be a signal of lights between the two men and then the call began. The “caller” at Curry would be looking straight up with his hands cupped to project his voice and he would call
“Let The Fire Fall!” Then the man at the top would answer “The Fire Is Falling!” At that time a fiery stream of glowing coals and fire would flow and cascade 3,000 feet down the granite face. It would flow for several minutes just like a stream of fiery liquid.
One of the old-timer “callers” when he was interviewed said that they always thought it was like a church service and that there was something spiritual about it. He said it riveted the people and that when it was over many would weep.
So there is man standing in the heart of California, on the banks of the River of Mercy, amidst the awesome outpouring of waterfalls, crying straight up “Let The Fire Fall!” and hearing as the Lord would answer from His heart of compassion “The Fire Is Falling!” as the fire falls from above.
Isn’t it interesting that in 1906 the outpouring at Azusa Street became known as “Fire on Azusa Street.” Flames were reported by passers-by as going up 50 feet from the roof of that old mission meeting flames coming down from heaven. God truly answered by fire!
THE YOUNGEST CIVILIZATION IS ALSO THE LAND OF THE ANCIENTS
There is a case that could be made that California and the west coast is symbolic to the end of the world. By that I mean that it is truly “Lands End.” Civilization began in the East and Middle East and basically moved west over the centuries. Of the “first world” or “western” countries America is the youngest. Correspondingly the west coast is the youngest of the young.
There are two other trees that are unique to California that we haven’t mentioned, yet they have great prophetic significance. The California Redwoods and the Bristlecone Pines are the biggest and oldest living things on the planet. The Redwoods are only found in California and the Bristlecone Pines are only found in the west with the oldest of them in California. The life span of both of them qualifies for the word ancient. The Redwoods are the largest living things on the planet and they date back to when Jesus was walking the earth. But the Bristlecone Pines, a scrubby little tree, are over 4,500 years old. The "Methuselah" tree, which is in the “Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest” in the White Mountains in California, is 4,789 years old. The “Methuselah” is the oldest known living organism.
As a Bible teacher I have often used the comparison of Moses and the Hebrew Children coming out of Egypt as a type & shadow of the Body of Christ being raptured. Could it be that God had a connection alive on the earth at the time of the first Exodus that would be living at the time of the last Exodus? Could it be that He deliberately placed that connection and the largest living things that connect to Jesus’ time here in California, the end of the earth, for that purpose? These great trees aren’t found in China or Russia or the islands of the sea, but in the young land of the most global moves of God on the planet.
When civilization finally arrives at the last of the earth to be civilized you find the most ancient living things on the earth. Very interesting!
